T61 Freeze on battery

#1 Post by KRASH » Fri Nov 02, 2007 11:23 am

Hi everyone,

I recently bought a T61 (646066U) and I am very happy with it. But I've got one (not so small) problem: when my thinkpad runs on batteries it freezes after 10-15 minutes. I cannot move my mouse pointer and it doesn't seem to react on key presses. The thinklight works, and there is still some harddisk activity. It won't go into sleep mode and the only thing I can do is do hold the power button to shut it down. This happens in windows and linux. I've installed all latest drivers from the ThinkVantage System Update.

I see there are somewhat similar problems on the T60, but I haven't heard of any T61's having this problem. Is anyone experiencing the same problem?

Thanks for your help! Yes, I do have 1gb turbo memory, so probably the turbo memory causes the problem. I currently use driver version 1.0.0.1082. I will do some experiments with the driver. I'll keep you informed!

ok...i can solve your problem

this is what you need to do

install the latest drivers

4. Intel Turbo Memory Driver v1.1.0.1010 (8/2/2007)

http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_ ... 5&lang=eng

5. Intel Matrix Storage Manager v7.6.0.1011 (8/2/2007)

http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_ ... 2&lang=eng

ignore any prompts that say you may be installing drivers older than what is currently installed

install the matrix storage driver after the turbo driver WITHOUT restarting. (the turbo memory already installs a matrix driver, but for some idiotic reason by intel, it is the old one)

restart your computer

then go to [Control Panel]->[Power Options]->[Change plan settings]->[Change advanced power settings]->[Hard disk]->[Windows Hybrid Hard Disk Power Savings Mode].

disable the Windows Hybrid Hard Disk Power Saving option

wallah! you're good to go

please keep me updated on how this works for you....i had the SAME problems and this solved everything..it has been a week or so since no freeze or bsod

Thanks eyecon! It seems like the problem is gone on Windows. I'm not completely sure yet, but it seems like this solved my problem!
