how to test a BRAND new notebook

I'd like to know whether my notebook (due to arrive mid-November) is fully functioning.

Is there a test to see if major components are running normally? Is there a program I can use?

I believe it should come with PC Doctor for Windows installed, but if not you can use the following.

PC Doctor for DOS bootable CD - ThinkPad

memtest86+ is a good idea.
