Difference between motherboards

#1 Post by Trainwire » Fri Nov 02, 2007 6:26 pm

My trashcan t-23 originally had a 2648.

I bought a 2647 off of ebay, and got it going again with that.

Tonight I took everything all apart again and plugged in the original 2648, and lo and behold the silly thing works.

So now I have two functional motherboards.

Which one to keep? What is the difference between the 2647 and the 2648? They are not sequencial, because the 2647 is younger than the 2648?

What are everyone's suggestions?

Thanks

Steve

2647 and 2648 are the type numbers of the system. They do not have anything to do with the motherboard that's inside the system (as far as I know). Rather, I believe it's a difference between the warranty period that was offered. To determine the exact FRU of the motherboard, look for a label next to the MiniPCI slot.

Oh, and about which one to keep... I'd vote for the newcomer. You already have history on the first board. No telling when it might go out again (probably due to some bad solder joints).

keeping a motherboard

#3 Post by Trainwire » Mon Nov 05, 2007 9:03 am

And that's what I did, put the thing back together with the "new" motherboard.

I will see if anyone wants the old one mobo on ebay.

To be honest, I know whoes the computer was before it wound up in the trash can,

I think I know the scenario, The hard drive lost or corrupted it's FAT files, and the owner thought it meant the HDD quit. Took out the modem card thinking it was the hard drive and disassembled the rest thinking it was dead, and threw it away.

When I found it, and talked to him, he gave me the memory that he insists that was in it originally, but, as we found out, couldn't have been.

New board and memory purchased, trashcan pc100 memory swapped with someone who had pc133.

HDD loaded with new operating system, tested, and found to have a couple of bad sectors, but able to be worked around.

Swapped memory works in original mobo :). Purchased memory works in now assembled t-23:)

Now have functional mobo to either keep for when the solder joints loosen up on the current mobo, or one to sell on ebay. :) :)

Life is good.

Instead of ebay, what would you sell me your old mobo? I have a T23 that gives the 0175 - bad CRC1 error, and I'd like to get it fixed without spending too much on it.
