T22 I/O Board in T23?

I recently picked up an i/o board for my T23 on ebay to fix a , but it turned out to be an i/o board for a T22 instead. It has 1 usb port instead of 2. Also, the cable connector looks different. I can live with 1 usb port since it's usb 1.1 and there's not much that you can do with usb 1.1 besides plug in a mouse anyway. I'm wondering if it will fit into my T23 chassis? I don't want to open up the whole thing to find out that there is no way that it will fit.

Well, I spent the day installing the i/o board. Now, the laptop won't boot up (nothing happens at all when I push the power button) and I don't even get a battery charging light when I plug in the ac adaptor. I'm hoping that the i/o board is just incompatible and that I didn't destroy the motherboard.

Since I guess no one tried this before, at least my experience should be helpful to other people.

Well, I know that I haven't done that type of replacement before. I've extracted one I/O board before on a T23 but never on a T21 or T22. I would assume that the differences in the ribbon cable are for the MiniPCI slot. The T22 uses a combo modem/ethernet card, whereas the T23 has a separate modem (MiniPCI) and ethernet (CDC) boards. Since there was no battery charging light, are you sure you had the power jack connected to the motherboard?

Since the power cable length from a T23 jack is twice as long as a T22 jack, I swapped the DC jack from my old T23 i/o board. I then plugged that into the power slot on the motherboard with the two red cables on the left and two white ones on the right on the connector. I did this since to my knowledge, the jack doesn't actually interface with the i/o board, just the motherboard itself.

Edit: I am worried that I may have damaged the motherboard though since I am 100% sure that the power cable is plugged into the motherboard and still there is no battery charging light.

Looking at a DC jack from a T23, there is a metal "spring" on the bottom of the jack. It is electrically connected to the ground (or the white wires going to the motherboard). Don't know if you need to have the DC jack firmly screwed onto the I/O board in order to complete a connection there, but the battery LED (and the other status lights) are on the I/O board.

So what is an "I/O board"? I've seen this mentioned a few times. From what I've read in this thread it's not what I was thinking it would be.

There's a thin board which runs the length of the back panel. It's called the I/O board simply because all of the ports (except audio and infrared) that are mounted on it. That I/O board plugs into the motherboard through a small, thin connector. There is another connector that the ribbon cable going into the MiniPCI bay plugs into.

The thin connector between the motherboard and i/o board might not be all the way in. I guess that I'll find out when I put a new T23 i/o board on Wednesday.
