Soundquality of the headphonejack on X40

#1 Post by opuschen » Wed Nov 10, 2004 7:46 am

Hi all, nice forum, I'm happy to have found it!

Im considering buying an X40 (really love the small size!) but I have one question. In my old Compaq M700 the soundquality of the headphone jack is horrible, with a lot of crackling and static, almost to the point of being useless. I've contacted compaq over this several times, but it seems that it was a design flaw (and compaq were complete a-holes about it, but that is another story).

So: How good/bad is the sound quality of the 3.5mm jack on the X40?

It's decent, but an external card would easily help, especially if you do any MIDI work.

I just want to avoid hearing the snap crackle and pop of static in my headphones all day when I'm listening to music/watching movies. I'm kind of sensitive to that kind of stuff....

My X31's headphone jack is fantastic. Can't tell a difference in quality between it and my SB Live.

If you're implying that an SB Live is "fantastic", then yes, the X40's sound quality is "fantastic". Along those lines, a dinner made of things I find on the street is at least "pretty good".

Hey, you're in luck! I also owned a Compaq M700 and I know how crap the headphone sound quality (indeed sound quality overall) was!

I got a X40 now and I can tell you that the sound quality, while it does suffer from slight static (it's very, very slight), it is still infinetely better than the pos that was on the M700, although that wouldn't really be hard!
