41N5738 - 200Gb SATA FDE

#1 Post by planetf1 » Mon Nov 05, 2007 7:01 am

Noticed this is now available.

a) Anyone know whether it's the Hitachi 7K200? Or a seagate?
b) This drive is NOT listed as supported in the T60p. Anyone tried it in a T60p? Or now of any specific issues?

this should be a seagate drive.   FDE (full disk encryption) is seagate's version of hitachi's BDE (bulk data encryption).

the 200GB FDE drive is not supported in the T60 according to this page but i don't know exactly why.   it could be due to BIOS support.

Maybe related to the footnote

Note: System/BIOS supports ATA security commands.

?

If so may mean 200Gb drive works, but not the security stuff?

ARGHHHH...I have one of those (200GB FDE) sitting back home. I have a T60p. As planetf1 noted, maybe only the encryption won't work??? Which I don't really care about...

If it really does NOT work, is there a 200GB 7k2 that DOES work in the T60p??

the regular hitachi 200GB 7K200 will definitely work.

It is sitting in my place in L.A. enjoying the sun. lol...I'm overseas at the moment. GRR...The FRU # is 42T1463. So this will definitely work? If it won't, I'd like to know now, and have my friend send it back for a different one.

Thanks erik...You basically answered my question. I just wanted to make sure, as I just found the exact FRU #. And will the encryption also work? Thanks again. 8)

i'm not sure if the T60 supports encrypted drives.   that's not something i've tested before.   someone might have to play guinea pig on this one.

<-- running regular non-Lenovo Hitachi 7k200 in my T60p. No problems at all. I also have a few of these drives available for sale, if anyone is interested.

I'd be happy to. :D So I don't really care about the encryption part, but will the hard drive definitely work?

To andrey: Is the HD you're running a FDE one?
