Lenovo 3000 C100 upgrades

#1 Post by Katch » Mon Nov 05, 2007 12:17 pm

Just a quick note for anyone out there thinking about upgrading their C100. I've had mine for about a year now and I think it's almost at its maximum possible specs.

CPU - Pentium M 760 2.0Ghz

Potenitally the 770 and 780 (2.13 & 2.2GHz) should work, still haven't found one to try.

Hdd - Seagate Momentus 5400rpm 160Gb

Lenovo documents say 100Gb is maximum supported drive - had no problems putting the 160Gb in. I wonder if the new 250Gb drives will work... still too expenisve to play with at the moment.

Ram - 2Gb DDR2

Easy upgrade, no potential for anything more here.

Just need a DVDRW drive instead of this naff CDRW/DVD combo junk and its all done.

As a side note - I've found this to be an incredibly stable and reliable Laptop. I DJ out live on it (with the addition of a decent soundcard) regularly and it has never let me down, not once.

At home it is usually on doing something or other and again it's never failed on me. It did start overheating at the start of last summer and turned itself off - upon investigating the heatsink on the heatpipe I found a thick layer of fluff - after removal back to being rock steady.

This laptop is also very well supported under Linux and OSx86, if that's your kinda thing.

I've also upgraded my Lenovo 3000 C100 0761-3EG

Celeron M 370 upgraded to Pentium M 770.

256MB RAM upgraded to 2GB.

40GB HDD upgraded to WD Scorpio 160GB.

CD-RW/DVD combo upgraded to LITEON DS-8A1P-021C DVD-RW (note you have to use the Lenovo bezel from the original drive so that the new drive fits flush with the laptop enclosure).

XP Home upgraded to Vista Home Premium (some driver problems at first e.g. 3-1 Digital Media Reader but driver support has improved over the last year). I have a problem with sound skipping in all applications e.g. WMP, iTunes, etc. This happens with sound files and video audio. However from Googling the problem this appears to be a Vista issue not Lenovo.

Same Katch as the one from modthepad?

You can also do the pinmod and using a 400mhz dothan overclocked 33% you can exceed the 2.33ghz.

Yup the very same.

My C100 never seemed to want to work with a pinmod in. I have just figured out how to software overclock though and max out my 760 at 2.5GHz.
