T43p to QXGA upgrade link

#1 Post by kam_ » Tue Nov 06, 2007 1:25 pm

Anyone tried this?

It looks simple enough, but can someone who understand chinese explain what specifically is needed apart from the IDTech screen?

Actually, I installed the QXGA panel on the Thinkpad it's intended for, i.e. the R50p. I never tried it on the T43p, and I never will because I am not a big fan of the T43/p (noisy fan and 2010 HDD error).

kam_, thanks for the link. It seems to me that this guy built a Thinkpad from scratch using T43p parts, a QXGA panel, and a QXGA cable, instead of getting a pre-built T43p and replacing the panel and LCD cable. I was told a while ago that the QXGA panel (which is thicker than the UXGA panel) is slightly thicker than the T-series lid, so I wonder how well the display bezel attaches to the T43p lid. I can't tell from the photos whether there's any gap between the bezel and the lid.

Here's a thread that you may find informative.

I am looking carefully at the fifth photo on page 5. I could be just imagining things but it looks like the bezel on the right is curved relative to the screen. That may be an indication that the display assembly is bursting at the seams. I don't know whether that's good for the LCD in the long term. Also, the screen probably presses against the trackpoint when the lid is closed.
