T60 Shutdown (like a power cut-off) (-PICTURE INSIDE-)
Hello everybody,
I need your help, because I have a recurring problem with my Thinkpad T60 (2623-D4U).
The problem is that the laptop is shutdowning (like a power cut-off) and it's the same thing on battery and with the
Lenovo DC Adapter...
It can shutdown while I load Windows XP, it can shutdown on Windows XP (in a game, when surfing on the web,...)
It can shutdown on Windows XP 2 min, 10 min or what he want after i loaded XP ....
Sometimes, when he is just on battery, when I press Power button, laptop doesn't start and battery is fully charged (@ 100%)...
When he shutdown:
- Battery LED = off
- Power LED = off
and 1 sec after ,
- Power LED = on
- Battery LED = 2 sec after Power LED become orange, then, green.
--> The laptop is new
--> BIOS is up to date
--> Memory (RAM) is Samsung/Lenovo and doesn't have any problem (tested)
--> Adapter is Lenovo (90W) and he is a new adapter.
---> Battery is OK and NEW (IBM Battery)
--> Motherboard is OK
---> PC-Doctor says all is OK
Where does the problem come from?
I'm crying everyday, because i'm a Student, and I had to work 3 full months to pay me
this Thinkpad T60 and he can shutdown like 45 times in 2 hours....
Thanks for your help,
Sincerly,
Thomas

Overheating is one of the cause of this sort of shutdown.
Download one of the following softwares to measure it's temperature regularly:
MobMeter (Right click and Save Target As).
NHC.
Your machine could need a new fan.

Yes, it may be overheating, but how to explain that when laptop is cold,
and i start it, it may shutdown while launching XP, or just 2 min after loaded OS.
I tried Windows XP, Debian ... Laptop shutdown everytime.
Sometimes, on battery, I have to press the button like 50 times to launch the power-on,
if I don't do that, it will stay OFF...
This is a curve after 45 min running :

You should've checked International warranty service (IWS) eligibility before buying.kouak wrote:What can I DO ?......snip
Only solution I can think of is following:
In cases where the country may not have the ability to service a particular model, service may be provided on a "best effort" basis and some fees or restrictions may apply. An alternative would be to attempt to obtain service under IWS in a neighboring country listed for the machine in question.

One of the things that has significantly helped with the overheating issue is setting CPU to adaptive speed in both AC and battery mode. Try that if you can.andrey wrote:I actually have a very similar issue and believe my laptop is overheating. I called Lenovo, they have escalated the issue and promised to call back. We'll see what happens...

But it's impossible to say something to Lenovo.
What can I DO ?![]()
Thanks,
Tom
Find a Local PC Doctor/Repair: IBM Thinkpad Specializer 1st if possible. Someone there can help Diagnos Problem!
First, contact Lenovo again (Get a Manager: Name & extension, Hound this person into Helping you) It can not hurt!!
If that does not work, then Bite the Bullet! You must get it Fixed/Figured-out! What I mean is Cut your Losses. Get it Fixed!
