seagate momentus 7200.1 not recognized in T30

#1 Post by vibraliner » Wed Nov 07, 2007 2:05 am

Bought a 100gb Seagate momentus 7200.1 (ST910021A) and I can't get my bios to recognize the disk. Tried in 2 different T30s, bios 2.01 and 2.08. both 2366-92u.

I tried all jumper positions, no luck.

Any ideas?

There is a newer BIOS 2.10 (1IET71WW) for the T30.
Goes with embedded controller 1.07 - 1IHT20WW.
I use a Seagate HD in my T30 without any problems. AFAIK there are no jumpers to be set at all.

None of my thinkpads use a jumper for Mst/slv/Cbl slct - remove it totally and see if that does it

I've had the exact same drive for a while in a very similar T30 (2366-97U) and never had an issue.

Have you tested the drive in another machine apart from these T30s...it might be defective and therefore not seen by BIOS.

I have tried without any jumpers (master) as part of the troubleshooting.

I have not tried in another machine. I can hear it spinning, so It's at least getting power. I don't have another one readily available. I'll have to go borrow a friends.

I'll try to update the bios.

drive checks out good on a T41
bios is updated to 2.10, and still can't recognize the drive.

As a last step, I used the T41 I have access to, and used IBM's (nee lenovo) harddrive firmware update utility ISO.

toes crossed and..... it didn't work either. Seagate momentus ST910021A Firmware updated from 3.06 to 3.07. Still nothing detected in T30 bios. :-(

Have you tried any other hard disk in your T30?
Could be a bad IDE interface.
If the HD works elsewhere, the problem lies in your T30 hardware.
Was there an original HD in it, and does that one (still) work?
