A30 Boots To Monitor But No Display On LCD

#1 Post by fuzzypup » Wed Nov 07, 2007 9:49 pm

I purchased an A30 motherboard assembly on eBay that boots fine to an external monitor but will not show display to a known good LCD. The LCD appears to be powered as the Thinklite is energized with Fn+PgUp but no sign of anything on screen. I have tried setting bios display to Both, CRT and LCD with no change.

Any other trouble shooting I could try to find the problem.

Could be the ribbon cable or the motherboard. If the complete lid assembly (LCD, cable, inverter) works on another system, then that basically leaves the motherboard. On a hunch, take a close look underneath the screw hole in the middle, back of the keyboard (where the "Y" shaped brace goes). Does it look like this:

If that area is undamaged, then you may have a problem with the video chip being disconnected from the motherboard or defective. I would also download a copy of PC Doctor for DOS for the A30 from here:

and run the Video tests.
