X61 Palmrest Questions

#1 Post by Kamika007z » Thu Nov 08, 2007 1:06 am

Hi All,

I have a few questions about the X61 palmrest assembly:

1. - If possible, where can one go about getting a new X61 pamrest assembly?

2. - Are they easy to replace?

The reason why I ask is because I have a friend who may have a defective one (the fingerprint reader is spotty most times).

Which also asks this question:

3. - Would IBM/Lenovo ship him a new one via his warranty for replacement?

Thank you all!

1. Yes, one can from IBM parts.

2. Watch the video and follow the instructions:

ThinkPad X60, X60s, X61, X61s

3. Yes, I don't see why not. Please tell your friend to call IBM Support Center at 1-800-426-7378 (24/7!) and request for a replacement of that faulty CRU.

Thank you ryengineer! I appreciate the detailed response!

Also, I must mention, he has the IBM logo palmrest, not the "ThinkPad" newer one - so I assume he would have to mention that so they can send him the correct part, right?

Thanks again :)

D'oh! I found it, so I edited my posting, but you got it before I could actually change it.

Thanks again!

Unfortunately that's not possible, the replacement is provided on best possible basis depending on the part availability so it's just a matter of luck of getting "IBM" or "Thinkpad" base for a replacement.
