Volume up, down, mute buttons don't work. . .

#1 Post by Wayne » Thu Nov 08, 2007 7:14 pm

R-40 running XP Pro SP-2, all updates.

I don't know when they stopped working. I have the latest audio drivers and BIOS but the buttons don't work. I have sound, the speaker icon, everything works except the buttons. Pressing them does nothing. No screen display either. PC-Doctor 5 is no help either (duh).

Suggestions?

Where you installing any software or hardware? Or was it from bootup?

I believe those buttons are related to IBM's "hot keys" program, try reinstalling it. The program starts at start up time, any config changes? thats what worked for my A31.

The latest version. The only keys it affects are keyboard keys, and combinations. Volume is listed but for a combination like Ctrl-Shift and such. But nothing for the specific buttons above the keyboard.

I've gone through the ThinkPad configuration and the buttons are not listed there either.

There are two programs, one is for the keyboard customizer the other is for the hot keys. Heres a link, if it doesnt work go to the R series software page and scroll down to the hot key download.

John

edit: direct link to program

Does the Access IBM/Thinkpad button still work?

Try installing Hotkey utilities drivers and Access Help online User's Guide.
"I've come a long, long way," she said, "and I will go as far,
With the man who takes me from my horse, and leads me to a bar."
The man who took her off her steed, and stood her to a beer,
Were a bleary-eyed Surveyor and a DRUNKEN ENGINEER.

Hotkeys and volume keys are two different animals, if you have those programs running, open it up and look for a volume button, it's not there. I have all the updates installed. And I kept playing with it last night. Turned it on today and I'll be KMA, the buttons work. I did exactly nothing from last night but the volume and mute buttons work. Don't ask me why. But still no OSD volume bar.
