Bluetooth-Wireless on R40 2683-MG2

#1 Post by K-Line » Fri Nov 09, 2007 3:34 am

Hello all

a friend of mine asked me to reinstall this notebook.
he have before windows 2000 and now I have installed windows xp.
He haven't the original IBM software but I think that I have downloaded and installed all the tools, drivers and utility that I have found there:

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-46024

but if I try to press Fn+F5 for turn on the bluetooth I got a message like that:

"The wireless lenovo adapters (802.11, WAN o Bluetooth) was not installed on this system" (I have translated from italian to english  )

What I have missed? I have also updated the motherboard's BIOS but nothing changed!
before formatting it I have seen that on windows 2000 was present two network connection and the bluetooth icon on the traybar have the white B (instead of the RED one that it have now) so I think that this notebook have the bluetooth (and/or the wireless) hardware installed.

How can I do to make it work also on XP?

Thanks a lot!

bye

According to Lenovo's website, this model does not have integrated Bluetooth...

My assumption would be that an external Bluetooth (dongle or what have you) has been used with it in the past, hence the icon that has been present in W2K.

Bluetooth and wireless have nothing to do with each other in a broader sense, you can have one and not the other. I currently have an X24 that has BlueTooth but no wireless, and the other way around is even more common...

As per the Lenovo site, the unit is wireless upgradeable, meaning it will take a wireless card and antennas are there, but BT is not mentioned...

Look for a single antenna in the front of the lid, similar to the two that are on the sides. I bet you're NOT going to find it, and that would be the sign that the machine has BlueTooth...

Go to www.lenovo.com then choose "supports and downloads" and type in the machine code...you can take it very easily from there...

All the best.
