T60 question regarding changing the bios settings...

#1 Post by LithiumKid1976 » Fri Nov 09, 2007 9:37 am

Hi
i have a t60. i also have a rextron kag12 KVM switch.

as part of the setup of the kvm switch, the instructions tell me to enter the bios setup, which i have done, pressing F1 gets me in.

in here, i am supposed to make the following changes.
1) in STANDARD CMOS, set HALT ON ERROR to ALL BUT KEYBOARD.

2) in PNP AND PCI SETUP, set PNP OS INSTALLED to YES and set USB IRQ to ENABLED.

maybe its just me, but i cannot find these settings... has anyone come accross this issue?
has any one got any suggestion id really appreaicate it, as its begining to bug me.

i have tried to use this KVM with out making the changes, and it dosent work, ie the laptop will pick up the mouse, but not the keyboard, and the IBM desktop wont boot as it cant recognise the keyboard..... :(

Thanks
Damien

Those wordings are from some particular BIOS, not generic settings that will be worded exactly that way in any BIOS.

There may be equivalent ones in the ThinkPad BIOS, but you will need to hunt around for the equivalents! Unless you luck onto someone who has tried to use that particular KVM with a Thinkpad, you will be on your own with that.

From my own experience with various KVMs and various ThinkPad models over several years, there were no particular BIOS setting tweaks necessary, as far as I recall.

Cheers,

Hi bill

thanks for your help, but i still cannot find the settings....ive been all through the bios, and cant find anything to resemble what i have been asked to change....

anyway, the search continues....

ive used other kvm switches, straight out of the box, with no configuring, so im not sure why these are so diffrent... :)

ok, got it sorted.

this KVM switch (KAG12) does not ship with a power supply unit, and when connected with out one, it will recognise the mouse, but not the keyboard, ie its not getting enough power from the usb port.

i Scavaged round and located a power supply that would fit and had an output of +5 volts,, 13W max . plugged it in, powered it on, and lo and behold it worked...started recognising keyboard, mouse, USB hub etc.....

so thats the answer, forget rooting through the bios, and get a power supply...

:P
