Trying to boot 760 EL in virtual drive.

I am not too computer literate, and certainly don't speak DOS.
After much playing around I can get to the point where it asks if I want to load Win 98 with or without CD support. It then tells a sad tale of problems with my HDD and suggests I have to do something about partitions. I try to do what it says, but always arrive at "you MUST restart your computer" close windows first. (if I knew I had windows to close I would be very happy) but I DO know that when I restart the computer the partition I installed in virtual memory will be in cyberspace.

I see a few posts advising to use a 2.5 - 3.5 adapter and do your install on a desktop, but when I tried this the 3 HDD's I tried
were all unrecognised by my desktop and I am very suspicious of the wiring of my adapter (the information I have found in a couple of places show the power lead to the 2.5 drive on the opposite side to the red on the desktop ribbon. I don't want to risk any more drives till I get this figured out. I have one drive that shows a big black padlock which I am not hopeful of picking. In "easy set up"
I can make it fade to grey and it would be nice to hear how to get rid of it.
I see references to key strokes like Fn +F11 that are supposed to reveal great secrets, I would love to know more about any of the above problems.
I have a 4XCD and a small docking station -- just a connector for the external floppy and 2 pci cards.
Any job is too big
