Hard drive not detected?

#1 Post by visionviper » Tue Nov 13, 2007 3:12 pm

I installed a new hard drive into my T40, but it isn't being detected. I tried removing the hard drive and putting it back in, but nothing. Did I miss a step in installing the hard drive? Is there somewhere I need to go into the BIOS to get it to recognize it? Or is my hard drive DOA? How can I tell?

Is the drive recognized in BIOS? What drive is it?

I'll bet it's not plugged in correctly or is upside down. The drive goes in with the printing down (away from the palmrest. The easiest way to get the pins to connect is to open the lid and turn it over with the open LCD down, and the machine supported by the palmrest.

Well, it got recognized this time around. I kept taking it out and putting it back in because I REALLY didn't want to have to RMA the drive as I am going on a trip in a few days. It just worked. Maybe one of the pins wasn't in quite far enough, I don't know. It works now though. :-/

EDIT: Let's just hope it keeps working :D

Yes, I was spooked by this before. Sometimes it doesn't slide in all the way or something.
