Cloning in Process as I type this - Question

#1 Post by rlchapin » Tue Nov 13, 2007 6:13 pm

I am using the Apricorn EZ Gig II Software and device. I have the new drive (Hitachi 7K200 100 GB) in my T61, per the Apricorn website. The old drive (Seagate OEM 80GB) is in the Apricorn device.

When I go through the screens the old drive shows 472.5kb of unallocated space. Do I want to leave 472.5kb of unallocated space on the new drive? Or is this just a screw up by Lenovo leaving this unallocated space on the old drive?

Any quick answers would be great as I am not going to proceed until I get some feedback on this.

Also I am going to make the service partition the samesize, the EZ GIG software defaults to proportional, thus the service partition would get bigger.

Thanks for any and all replies.

I can't answer your question about un-allocated space. However, I use the Apricorn kit and found that in order to produce a bootable Clone, I have to:

1. Make sure (in BIOS) that the pre-desktop area security is DISABLED. Also, make sure that the CD Drive has boot preference.

2. Clone FROM the external (USB) drive TO the internal drive in order to produce a Bootable Clone. You must remove the (Source) Drive from the laptop and mount it in the USB case. Then you must mount the New (Destination) Drive IN the laptop.

3. Boot from the Apricorn CD.

4. Then be sure to select the external (USB) Drive as the SOURCE Drive and the internal Drive as the DESTINATION Drive.
