Anyone have SXGA+ resolution and an X series 12.1 XGA Res?

#1 Post by Alltweed » Wed Nov 14, 2007 4:57 pm

The replies I found to the XGA resolution issue seem to suggest either expect a "major dissappointment" or given that its a 12.1 the XGA is fine i.e. it its not for 100% use.

I have the ultimate already - T60 15" SXGA+ Flexview - but their are times I don;t want to lug the 15" (some travel trips, coffee shops, small spaces etc)...

Maybe somene who has both can weigh in. I want decent resolution, but I don;t want to order it and then say crap this is aweful - I can't use this.

I have not found a TP 12.1' to review and setting XGA on a 15" LCD does not really work and the tablet is not an option - too expensive.

Any good pics out there or can someone speak more to the 12.1/XGA vs 14 or 15/xga resolution expectation?

thx much!

Hah! Coincidentally, I have a T23 14.1" SXGA+ and an X22 12.1" XGA side-by-side on my desk at the moment. Besides the X22 having a way brighter screen (the T23 is a little red), I find either system to be very useful. The SXGA+, of course, can display much more information at once. Even with the default DPI and text size, I can (still) comfortably read the text; got my glasses on today instead of the contacts :) . Running Firefox and measuring the text in the menu line, the SXGA+ is is about 0.06" and the XGA is 0.08". I don't have a good camera with me but here's two lousy images from my Zire and Sony cellphone:

In my opinion, the XGA in the X22 is still useful even though it fairly small. If you want something a little bit bigger, while still being portable enough, than that probably means a 13.3" 600X XGA system. It sounds like you probably would not like a heavier 14" XGA system such as a T4x.

Thanks for reply! I think my usage would be 30-40% so it would likely work. Mostly email, surfing, reseach stuff.
