#1 Post by drive » Wed Nov 14, 2007 5:39 pm

Will this combination work correctly for multiple monitors? Is anyone else using this setup?

T61 with Intel 965 video
Advanced Dock
Lenovo X1300 PCI express video card
Vista 32

Thanks

If what you're shooting for is multiple monitors off DVI, then that combination will not work. With Vista, each graphics chip must use the exact same driver, but your list includes the 965 and X1300, which use different drivers. The X1300 video card is incompatible with the Intel 965 running under Vista.

You should either
1. Get a T60 with a X1300, rather than a T61, OR
2. Switch to Windows XP, OR
3. Buy another model of Thinkpad that has discreet graphics for which you can find a PCI-Express card.

Keep in mind that you can have two external monitors with just your T61 and mini-dock. One will be DVI, the other will be VGA. Your internal display will be dark in this mode.

Thanks for the info. I actually have all the equipment that I listed :( and found that it doesn’t work with vista. I thought I saw on Lenovos site that it was compatible with the x1300 but I must have been wrong.

Thanks

Ok I loaded xp pro sp2 and installed all the base drivers. I then tried to dock it into the docking station with the video card and it freezes at the loading XP screen. I can only get in safe mode. Has this happened to anyone one else?

1. Try unplugging EVERYTHING from the dock except power, and rebooting.
2. Go into your Thinkpad's BIOS and change the display preference setting from external (PCI-Express) to internal (or vice-versa) and see if that changes anything
3. If you still can't boot, go into safe mode and run the Catalyst setup program for the card in the dock.

Also, I don't know if this is relevant, but you can't dock/undock while powered up when you have a video card in the dock. You have to dock the unit, and do a cold start.

T61 Advance Dock with Vista - What Graphics Card?

#8 Post by azaveri » Wed Nov 05, 2008 11:54 pm

I also have a Lenovo T61 laptop with the following config:

OS: Vista Ultimate

RAM: 4GB

System Type: 32 bit

Display Adapter: Mobile Intel 965 Express Chipset Family (I dont have an Nvidia)

I want to connect 2 external display. I have the advance dock. My question is which graphics card should I buy? I realize that the Maxtor P650 PCIe 128 as mention here (http://www.matrox.com/graphics/media/pd ... _Guide.pdf) should work.

RonS wouldnt this work? It seems Maxtor claims that it would work.

Is there any other better card that I can buy and make it work? Please advice.

The rep told me that you can email your request to the email address innovation@lenovo.com to have them come up with a driver for vista T61 and advance dock for at least one Graphics card. I did that, I encourage others to do the same.

Re: T61 Intel 965 + Advanced Dock + lenovo x1300 PCIE video card

Please drop a little knowledge on me.
I'm trying to make the Radeon x1300 board work with my new (ebay/used) setup

My rig: R61 (8933-94A) w/ the intel 965 video setup + Advanced Dock (2503-10U) + Lenovo Radeon X1300 (41U5028) + XP Pro fresh & clean install (not restore disk)

The laptop will not boot when docked with the X1300 PCI-X board installed in the dock. If I boot the laptop and then dock it, the PCI-X card is seen in the device manager with a yellow ! in a circle. I've installed the proper drivers from the advanced dock page and cant get the sucker to work.

I re-read the dock info today: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-61232

My (disapointed) interpretation is that only T60 and Z61 models will support a PCI-X video card in the dock. I've phoned the support center in Atlanta about 5 times and have yet to encounter somebody who can provide answers.

Has anybody encountered success supporting a video card in this dock on a R61?

I'm thinking or more accurately hope that that there could be a resource conflict or perhaps IBM needs to update the bios.

Thank you in advance for your thoughts.
