MiniPCI wireless problems

#1 Post by LPC » Wed Nov 14, 2007 7:39 pm

I started my problems on this thread.I am starting this thread because it is now I have a different problem.

When the I boot now I get this message during post "Warning 01C9: More than one Ethernet devices are found. Remove one of them" I am then given the option to enter set up or press esc to continue to boot into windows. During the install of this card I did not have the driver. Window saw it as an Ethernet in the new hardware set up, but when I set the wizard to find a driver it installed it as a 802.11g wireless cardbus adapter. This is what it is called in the device manager. At the end of installation windows warned that there was a problem loading device and I might have errors. I have no recorded errors in device manager and the Card connects to the network fine. I am actually writing this connected with the card.

I tried to test the card using PC doctor and it was not able to find the card ...N/A under the wireless LAN test.

Two questions:
Why am I getting the Ethernet error?
Where can I find a driver for this card?
Chip says
AR5213A-00
A20285C
3204
Thanks

firstly, windows drivers wouldnt cause bios issues. i doubt drivers are your problem.

secondly, can you identify the chipset info on the card

Well I already updated the Bios and EC to the most recent and reset it to the default settings after installing the Atheros card "F9".

The Chipset info is what I wrote.in first post. I can not find any driver for it using google.

I still have not tried a clean XP install. I will try that as I was going to anyway. Thanks for the reply.

Atheros cards identify themselves as "network controllers" instead of "other" and confuse BIOS...you likely won't get this with an Intel or Broadcomm card.

The only way to get around this is a BIOS hack, available if you Google the error that you have...

BTW, I have that on my main A31p and it doesn't bother me one bit...press ESC and move on...Atheros card is well worth this little annoyance, IMHO.

i have a Wifi card that has a TI chipset, it has the TI logo on the card and in windows it identified itself as a network controller, it took a couple of days to find drivers as the card was not intended for PC use, i pulled it from a Belkin wireless router.

in the end I had to find a PCMCIA wireless card that used the same chipset to get the card running and had no problems after that.

I think I found the information I needed off of a site that had techincal mumbo jumbo on that chipset. this was why i was asking if the chip had a branding or logo other tthen just... numbers.

I belive the bios hack simply bypasses the error. If the card works then you turn off that portion of the POST to stop the error.

But your chip is indeed an artheros, I googled "AR5213A-00 chip" and found this. Maybe you can find a set of "compatible drivers".

I found a little info linking an X-Micro WLAN PCI card as having the similar chipset (not exact), you can try downloading some drivers there and seeing if it works.

links suggest that the chip is an Atheros Wireless AR5000 series.

but i did not get much information out of this quick search, try searching for AR5000 and whatnot.

Sorry, It was late and did not search the error.

Thanks jamerslong. It has Atheros on it. I will try some drivers related to the AR5000 series.

ajkula66...that is what I have been doing pressing esc. If that what is going on...then I can live with that.

Thanks all for the help.

Ok.....

I am back to sqaure one.

I used the 01C9 fix on the atheros card from thisthread it work. When it was posting from restart no error :D when into bios changed boot order to HD by "F9" "F10". Restart and when posting I get now both errors

01C9 and

Resource Conflict - PCI Network Controller in slot 01 Bus:02, Device:02, Function:00

got into windows and in the device manager the Atheros card has the code 10 "this device cannot start". It does not work! I should of just left it alone.......

Ok....I am really thinking it is the IRQs I am going to try a fresh window install.....

My T30 also has an Atheros (5006 chip) card with the 01C9 error, but just pressing Esc is all it needs to continue perfectly every time.

That is what mine did untill I tried the fix. Now it is giving me a conflicting resources error just like on the Broadcom card I tried as documented in the link on my first post.

Switch the TP off and remove the Atheros card.
Switch back on. Go into Control Panel. Uninstall all wifi drivers.
Go to Add/Remove Hardware, then select Show hidden devices. Uninstall everything to do with any wireless cards you may find. Reboot without the card.
Check the Add/Remove hidden devices that everything is gone.
Switch off, re-insert Atheros and install the drivers when asked.
Hope it works now.

I am not able to uninstall the wireless devices. I get this message "Failed to uninstall the device. The device may be required to boot up the computer."

What is the:
Intel(R) pro/1000 MT network adapter - packet scheduler miniport
WAN miniport (IP)
WAN miniport (IP) - packet scheduler miniport
WAN miniport (L2TP)
WAN miniport (PPPOE)
WAN miniport (PPTP)

Do I uninstall these also?

I forgot about those WAN miniports. Leave them, they are part of the system.
That Intel thing belongs to your Ethernet port, so leave that as well.
With the rest gone, you should have a clean base to start from.

Try booting into Safe Mode without networking, then try again.
You have a plethora of unwanted stuff, which probably confuses the hell out of your OS.

I had to follow this procedure to delete the wifi adapters in device manger....there were 5!
Both the broadcom and Atheros now have a code 10 in device manger and get the PCI conflict error on post. I am thinking it might be the modem as it is the only other device left that was once in the minipci slot........more to come

Your mentioned procedure does exactly the same as what I described to you. There is no need to go thru the CMD hoops.
What is the exact brand/make/model of that wifi-card?
Did it come perhaps from a Dell or HP or Sony?

Made probably exclusively for Toshiba.
Try these drivers for:
XP/W2K: http://ekahau.com/products/client/drivers/atheros/ (take Site survey link)
Vista: http://support.toshiba-tro.de/tools/Sat ... 710902.zip
Linux: http://www.wlug.org.nz/AtherosWirelessChipset

Found those on this eBay page: http://tinyurl.com/yv5sos
Looks mostly like your card.

Best of luck.
