Creating recovery CDs from an IBM ThinkPad A22m
I have an IBM ThinkPad A22m made May 2001 that still has the hidden "IBM_SERVICE" partition. I purchased this computer direct from IBM, but it did not come with the two recovery CDs (apparently not standard issue back then). In addition, there is no option to create original recovery CDs (like in today's Lenovo computers), and it is nearly impossible to find the recovery CDs for the IBM ThinkPad A22m. Is it possible create original recovery CDs from the hidden partition? I am not asking if there is a way to create backup media from the current software setup and installation; actually I'm wondering if the "Rescue and Recovery" software from Lenovo will allow for the creation of original recovery CDs in a 2001 ThinkPad.

What is the 7 character product ID? (usually found on the back of the machine).
Go to Market Place of this forum and request there, hopefully someone with one will be able to make a copy for you.

IBM ThinkPad A22m 2628-P2U
Model number and type of my IBM ThinkPad A22m is 2628-P2U, with Microsoft Windows 2000 preloaded. The recovery CD FRU is 23P8952.
As suggested, I will post a request in the marketplace, but I'm hoping to find out if someone out there has created original recovery CDs from the hidden partition on a ThinkPad from around 2001.

I'll look into it. So far, I can confirm your machine was never shipped with Product Recovery disks (physical), it was a policy of IBM at that time, few machines types were others were not.

No recovery CDs included, no method to create
I do appreciate you looking into the matter. Let me know what you come up with. Sadly these systems in addition did not include a method in the original factory software to create recovery CDs (many models only had a CD-ROM).

Unfortunately there was never an option to create Recovery disks on Thinkpad A22m. If you cannot find "Create Recovery Discs" option in the "Access IBM" menus of your factory installed OS then it was never integrated there by 2001.
You can perhaps try creating an image by following the instructions given in the below thread:
Creating an image of the hard drive.
Or request them from someone in the Marketplace.

Is there an I386 directory on the C: drive ? If so, under WinXP, you can create a windows installation disk. I'm not sure whether you can do the same for Win2K, but you could try the instructions at http://www.howtohaven.com/system/create ... disk.shtml
