R31- Fujitsu HHD install problems Help!

#1 Post by cliffjumper » Thu Nov 15, 2007 3:52 pm

Hello guys,

i know i know use the search, But i did i did lol!!!!!!!

i just puchased a Fujitsu MHV2060AH HDD loaded it with windows XP, but my computer refuses to boot up. I went into configuration to see if its even reading it and its there. all a get is a blinking cursor. What am i doing wrong? do i have to upgrade the BIOS, Firmware or OS? and if so how? I noticed that all the help is for newer models and the hitachi HDD and none for the fujitsu. your help will be much aprreciated.

PS my old HDD Crashed and im starting from scratch

...HDD loaded it with windows XP, but my computer refuses to boot up.
Could you please clarify, how did you install the OS, did you copy all the files to the disk prior to installation, use the Windows XP CD, or use the recovery CD?

By loaded, I assume that HD was formatted and the files were merely copied over to the disk. If you have access to a USB floppy drive (R30/31 will not boot from a memory key/stick) try booting from the XP Floppy Start-up Disk. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310994 If you have access to a copy of XP on CD, you should be able to boot from it and then access the installation program on the HD.

I don’t know why it would happen on a new drive, but it sounds like the master boot record (MBR) is corrupted. MS has an article on repairing it. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314503/en-us
