A 'classic' question

#1 Post by SimonCC » Fri Nov 12, 2004 8:10 pm

I have changed my settings in windows to "classic style" as i hate all the fluff in the xp style. The only downside is that in office, this style makes things look much more dreary, i actually prefer the light blue 'remedial' look when working in office. Is there anyway i can configure things so that in office (2003) the look is xp style but nowhere else???

Cheers! :D

This affects your whole system, not just word, but should do the trick:
You can have classic style and the go to control panels, system, advanced tab, performance settings. Choose under visual styles, custom and uncheck everything save perhaps smooth edges of screen fonts and use visual styles on windows and buttons. That should get you the light blue effect in word.

thanks my friend, but the problem with that is that it makes the toolbar xp style, i want to find the best of both worlds, looks like it might not be attainable!

That's why I mentioned the changes would affect your whole system. Not sure what else you can do....

I looked around and see there are some utilities out there that appear to be able to modify the theme/skin of Office xxxx. I've never tried any or know of anyone who has so you're on your own...good luck.

try http://www.stardock.com/products/windowblinds/
It is a great windows skinning utility, and there are thousands of skins available for it at http://www.wincustomize.com/skins.asp?library=1

I use it and a few other freebies by that company on my desktop, and the free versions work great (just a banner asking you to register when to computer first goes on, no trial period)
