I just googled QFE and found out:
QFE = Quick Fix Engineering = hotfix
http://searchwinit.techtarget.com/sDefi ... 50,00.html
I guess more people would understand if you put hotfixes in the subject. They are often security updates released by Microsoft. Personally I think you can live without them but you'll live better with them.

If you let use know what hotfixes you a talking about it's easier to tell how important they are. The hotfixes i have seen provided by Lenovo is either to remove the energy star where you change the screensaver (this one is pretty useless i think), hotfix to change the time for daylight saving (only relevant if you live in the areas where the time for daylight saving is changed) or fixes releated to CSS which is only relevant if you if you use CSS. Might be some others that i missed, but those are the only one i remember to have seen from Lenovo. There is a whole lot of others provided by MS though and some might be relevant and some not. If they are listed under high priority when running windowsupdate i would recommand to install them. Under optional you have to decide if needed or not for each of them. Those you can find on the Lenovo site is most likely available directly from Microsoft using windows update as well.
I think this thread belong under the Windows OS forum though since it's not unique for T4x or any other computer and is a Windows thing.

I have a T42, and I don't see any Lenovo supplied QFE's for this laptop.
QFE's are often model or platform specific. As such, I think this is an appropriate question for this forum. For instance, the QFE's on the following page do not apply to any of the T4x series ThinkPads.

A lot of the QFE's from Microsoft is relevant for all/most kind of hardware like these two. I wouldn't say that any of these is critical though and especially not the first one.
