How to disable keys?

#1 Post by alosito » Sat Nov 17, 2007 2:02 am

I don't find Back and Forward buttons on my X61's keyboard useful. Is there any way to disable them or assign different functions to them?

With the Keyboard Customizer Utility...
[look in the ThinkVantage folder]

It should already be installed, but if not, you can download and install it from Lenovo.

I didn't find that option in Keyboard Customizer Utility. Where can I reassign those two keys in it?

On the Key Sensitivity tab is a check box for "Enable Browser Keys". There are also a couple of sliders if you want to change the sensitivity of those keys (Browser Back Key & Browser Forward Key).

Either the Keyboard Customizer Utility is not the same for the X61s as for the T42, or else you didn't look very hard.

Yeah, I gotta say, those browser keys are PERNICIOUS! In the span of two weeks, I've had half a dozen webmail and forum posts wiped out, because my finger tapped the PAGE BACK key instead of the CURSOR BACK key just below it. Who the heck was the ergonomics genius behind THIS feature?

When I change the sensitivity to 4/5 instead of 1/5, it seems to be enough of a safeguard against accidental nuking.

Thanks a lot for this tip!

Apparently someone who uses a browser that doesn't wipe out the contents of forms when going back and forward ;)
