Hard drive not recognized

#1 Post by LPC » Sat Nov 17, 2007 7:50 pm

Ok I am pretty frustrated :x

Here is the problem.....I have 3 hard drives. One that was originally in my T23 with windows XP pro. One that came in a parts T23 that has the XPpro IBM OEM partition. The third has win 98 on it. When I swap the hard drives into the T23 the I get an error that the OS is not found. I used DFT and it could not even see the hard drives. When I put my original Hd back in the OS is found and all boots fine. I borrowed my father in laws 770 to see if the hard drives can be seen in it. All three HDs can be seen and pass the DFT. I erased the boot sector on the hard drive with 98 on it. My T23 saw it. I booted with an XP disk and loaded XP on it. Now when I put my original HD back into the T23 the OS is not found.

Can the T23 only be associated with one HD?

Why can the T23 read only one HD but the 770 read all three?

Is it possible that the connection is not being properly made with the affected drive?

Are you using the supplied caddy?

Ok Im embarrassed  I have not been using all four screws to install the hard drive caddy. It never was on all the way so it prevented a firm connection. Now all three drives are recognized. Yay...thank goodness I didnt do anything stupid.....

I am glad all is well.

I have seen this before and that is why I suggested what I suggested.
