Problem with System Restore ThinkPad R61

#1 Post by minang » Sun Nov 18, 2007 1:39 pm

Hi, I have a problem with my current R61. Whenever I tried to use system restore, I always get a message: "The writer experienced a transient error. If the backup process is retried, the error may not reoccur. (0x800423F3)".
Did Anybody have the same experience?
I also tried to make a copy of restore CD, but it failed saying "Creat Recovery Media has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."

Any help/suggestion is really appreciated. Thanks.

Note: I have Windows Vista Home Basic OS on this laptop. T7300 Intel with 1 GB RAM.

There is a difference between (Windows) System Restore and (lenovo) factory restore. The former is giving you the problem, perhaps due to some instability of the restore point.

In following situations one is unable to create Product Recovery disks:
You are not able to create the Recovery Discs in your current windows system in the following situations.
- Created one set of recovery discs already.
- Partitioned the hard drive.
- Deleted the original system recovery hidden partition.
The error you mentioned is a typical Windows crash prompt since Windows 95 days, it could itself be a mystery to Microsoft.

If you wish to put your machine in out of the box factory condition then press the blue ThinkVantage button or F11 when lenovo thinkpad logo screen appears during the boot. Be sure to backup your important data beforehand as the recovery process is going to build up your primary partition again with no tracks of the previous data.
"I've come a long, long way," she said, "and I will go as far,
With the man who takes me from my horse, and leads me to a bar."
The man who took her off her steed, and stood her to a beer,
Were a bleary-eyed Surveyor and a DRUNKEN ENGINEER.

Thank you.
Yes, I ended up pressing the F8 during the booting process and restored the machine back to factory setting.
