X61t video pixelated & blocky in vista ultimate

#1 Post by Aristotle11 » Mon Nov 19, 2007 12:48 am

All my DVD and Divx and Quicktime videos are really blocky and pixelated, especially at fully screen (not so much when the window is small). I dual boot XP tablet with the same machine and have no problem in XP. All drivers are up to date. I use WMP, quicktime, VLP, and have the same problem with each. Any ideas?

Try the following procedure explained by GomJabbar:

Trouble Playing DVD's

The videos downloaded from internet mostly requires codecs, make sure you've them installed.

My XP and Vista installations are as identical as possible (codecs installed on both), but vista does not play videos properly. I have able 100 serious problems with my X61 now. I must say, it is the worst computer I've ever owned. My X31 was flawless, but the X61 tablet sucks. It has one set of problems in vista, and another in XP.

I am sorry you feel that way from after having hard time with your machine ofcourse, anyone would. As you state if Windows Vista does not play the videos properly then it's Microsoft blunder, I'm sure members here will be willing to help you if you describe the problems you're having in Windows XP.

I found a weird pixelated effect when I first used my X61 tablet. The video looked like it was at half resolution.

Solution was to disable hardware acceleration in Quicktime, and find the DirectX option to "enable YUV mixing in all VMR modes"

This fixed everything.

Where are those options in Vista?

Video works fine in XP, but not in vista.
