X61, Presentation Director & Vista, does it work for you

#1 Post by ozsmac » Mon Nov 19, 2007 4:06 am

Dear Gurus,

Hoping that someone might be able to help me find a solution to a rather annoying problem?

When i try to configure any combination of monitor configuration (including only the LCD or multi) with Presentation Director v3.03a (the latest), i’m getting an error telling me my notebook LCD resolution or color quality can’t be applied. This is rather strange as i can configure the exact configuration using the standard Windows (Vista) display settings.

Combinations of monitors & configurations that i’ve tried in Presentation Director that don’t work include:
LCD 1024x768 32bit + 16bit (don’t get any screen refresh options in single monitor)
LCD 800x600 32bit + 16bit (don’t get any screen refresh options in single monitor)
LCD 1024x768 32+16bit & External 1200x1600 32+16bit

If i use Presentation Director to only define only the external monitor this works. I have the correct monitor drivers & latest video drivers (used SystemUpdate & verified by reviewing the latest driver list from Lenovo).

I’m thinking that the default screen refresh for the internal LCD in Presentation Director might be an issue, however the GUI doesn’t let you modify this.

Hoping that someone has any other ideas, or should i give up on Presentation Director?

Thanks in advance for any help!
Steve

Update - Isolated specific problem, any ideas for a fix?

#2 Post by ozsmac » Thu Nov 22, 2007 7:58 pm

Hi All,

Just figured out that this problem only happens when i configure the "Primary Monitor" to be the "external Mointor or Projector".

If i keep the primary monitor as the "Notebook LCD" the settings test without error & everything works.

Anyone else having this issue, any ideas?

PS - I've tried re-installing Presentation Director & also my Video drivers, this didn't help.

Same problem, still unsolved

I've observed the same problem on my new (5 days old) X61.

I called Lenovo, and the supervisor set up his X61 as described and it worked. Since my machine was basically new, the only immediate suggestion was that Windows Update had somehow messed things up. His suggestion was to restore the factory image and start again.

Right now, I don't have time to do that, so I went through and removed all the updates that I had installed through Windows Update. Sadly, that didn't fix it, though there were a few whose description seemed applicable. I'm hopeful that the uninstall was imperfect and that it will work when I return to the factory image. That said, I may be barking up the wrong tree.

Have you (or anyone else) made any progress?
