How do you transfer ownership of a used ThinkPad?

#1 Post by Vert.E.Gogh » Mon Nov 19, 2007 6:43 am

How do you transfer ownership of a ThinkPad if it was purchased used on eBay? Is there a process for registering it under your name as the new owner or is this not necessary?

The laptop, an R61, has three years EZServe limited warranty. The warranty is attached to the machine itself and not the name of the person or company that originally purchased it, correct? If you call Lenovo customer support, do they simply verify the warranty on the machine and proceed from there, or do they ask for your personal information as well?

Any thoughts? Thanks.

You don't have to do anything. The warranty follows the machine. As long as the machine is not reported stolen to IBM you are in good shape. IBM won't tell you if it is reported stolen until after you send it in for repair. Then I presume they keep it until they can return it to whomever reported it stolen.

Yes on both accounts. They ask the machine type and serial number to verify it is in warranty. Then they ask for your information so they can ship out a box for you to send the laptop back in with.
