Reformatting T43 - 2668

#1 Post by brolie3 » Tue Nov 20, 2007 1:32 pm

Hello, as said in the subject header, I am looking to reformat my T43 for it has been a bit choppy and I wish to reinstal windows with a different CD key. I was wondering if anyone knew of a driver package I could use or such so that I do not have to manually download each driver and transfer it to an external hard drive.

In addition to this, I've been getting a power source error when I unplug or plug my laptop in while it is on. Any fixes?

Thanks!

If you have the Rescue & Recovery CD set already made up, you can use that to restore your machine to factory spec. Just make sure you -also- have the emergency boot media CD created, as this may be necessary when you start the recovery process.

If you don't have the Rescue & Recovery CD set, you might still be able to create it with your existing machine setup, if the program is still onboard. It takes a heck of a long time, but is worth it.

On the ThinkPad drivers and utilities, you can just go get them "cafeteria style" form the Lenovo site. (Take what you want, leave the rest)

The power problem may be software related, and would be cured by the re-install.

Have a look in the thread How to Fresh Install Win XP (Step-by-Step Guide) - I think that's perhaps what you're looking for?

PS: If the link in that thread does not work, I have a PDF'ed version of the guide - send me a PM with your e-mail address, if you wish a copy of that.

PS2: If you turn to the thread, page 10, and see the post of Wed Apr 04, 2007 11:22 pm you'll find a link to the guide (that link is alive; I just tested it).

Best regards,

Johan

You're guide offered is very helpful, but I have a question.
Are there any more websites offering windows XP package or the BCD package? The offered links seem to be down in the guide.

In addition, I have an windows XP CD and most of the drivers are accessible online...

Would it be wise for me to save my network drivers on a flashdrive, reinstall windows, and then install the network drivers, which will allow me to find the other drivers I'd like?

Definitely. I'd also save the ATi and audio drivers, but that's me.

Simply download all the drivers you want from IBM site and burn them to a CD then you have them whenever you want.
