Advise needed in choosing which...

#1 Post by r2d2 » Tue Nov 20, 2007 2:12 pm

i do not know if this is the right forum to ask this...

i am being offered an X21 495Mhz 300+MB RAM to replace my X20 600Mhz 192MB RAM. aside from the clock speed and the size of RAM (all other things like HDD capacity being equal), what else should i consider? or is going to X21 already an obvious choice?

forgive my ignorance on this matter :??:

thanks again...
Best Regards,
Rosh

The X21 is actually 700 MHz but slows down to 500 MHz when idle or under light load. It is noticeably faster than the X20. I would go for it.

Thanks for the reply...

I just based the 495Mhz from Windows XP control panel --> System.. where it shows the RAM size, Processor type, etc... so even if this shows a 495Mhz, it is not the actual clock speed of the system?

It is the actual clock speed of the system at the time when the window actually displays. If the computer is under no load, it will show ~500 MHz and if the computer is under load (i.e. viewing web sites with plenty of Flash animations), it will show ~700 MHz.

Now that I come to think of it, there are some models of X21 that have a 600 MHz processor (which slows down to 500 MHz when under low load). You should check which one you have, using a tool such as CPU-Z.
