LCD Pressure Marks & buzzing sounds from cpu area.

#1 Post by tockki » Wed Nov 21, 2007 12:31 pm

I sent in my thinkpad for repairs because of 2 things:

1. When the laptop is on batteries there is a electrical buzzing sound coming from the cpu/fan area.. .but when I hook it up to the power supply it disappears.

2. There was 2 white spots on my lcd but the pixels work with just lighter color spots in that area.

My question is tech support called back and told me that the bright white spots are caused by pressure marks and it is not under warrenty so they will charge me $700 (which I won't do). Is there a way around this? If it is indeed caused by pressure marks, is there a way to buy maybe an even better LCD (maybe even flexview??) for a cheaper price that works perfectly with my 2613 T60? Ebay? and parts info?

Other question is that I was wondering whether anyone else has this problem with the annoying electrical buzzing sound... and their take on it. I sent the computer back 2 times and they replaced the fan but still there...

Searching the web even further... I found out the part number I need is 13n7059 and have seen that it is available through ebay. But Just wondering is there a better lcd out there that works well with my system? I realized no flexview for 14.1 sorry my bad...

I had the same problem, and asked about this before. See my topic here:

So, basically, Samsung for brightness, TMD for sharp contrast (the one that came default with my Thinkpads), or Hyundai if you like quality.
Look up LCD part # here:

And about the electrical buzzing, I have no idea. It's probably normal though, because it may be fan noise.

Thanks for your topic link and the parts info Avalon... So I guess out of the three displays - Samsung, TMD, and BOE HYDis... Samsung is the best 14.1 SXGA+ even though all are sub par...

if there is small constant humming when you are running from battery and disappears when you are running from AC adapter, then its almost definetly from power system, not from fan.

And its common. Its made from electric power parts like convertor etc - so mainboard/powerboard. But its common, let say 1 of 3 models of laptops is doing this regardless on the brand.

---

White areas on LCD can be done by pressure on LCD, but also they may be malformation of LCD. I dont know any method how to reliable find a source of this :(

The buzzing is from the intel speedstep power management technology which scales the frequency of the CPU. If it bothers you enough you can turn it off in the bios - but you'll lose some battery life.

Its common to most core duo / 2 duo machines.

I suggets you have a look in the thread Fan Whine (see the post of Wed Sep 12, 2007 12:49 pm), and see of the issue discussed there - "CPU noise" - might be the the same as what you are observing? Sounds familiar...

Best regards,

Is there a replacement XGA 14.1" glossy lcd available??

Johan and Figuer... The CPU noise seems to be the culprit cuz that is where the noise is originating from.... I have 2 T60s with the 7200 cpu. The thing about it is that on one of the T60 the electrical buzzing sound is much louder than on the other one. Anyways, The IBM depot people said they are replacing the system board to solve the problem - we shall see... (That's the 2nd time they replaced it though...) I'll update when I get back my laptop.

This electrical buzz is annoying though... I don't really know the mechanics behind the buzzing sound when on batteries... but hopefully there will be a fix for this - whether the CPU or the program controlling the power source...
