help diagnose monitor failure please

#1 Post by t41user » Wed Nov 21, 2007 2:37 pm

I've been happily using my T41 2379-DJU for the past four years. Apart from the PC Doctor fiasco, no problems except for replacing the keyboard and the CD/RW drive under warranty a couple years ago. Here's the current problem:

For the past year, my LCD/monitor had the reddish tint toward the bottom of the screen, but only for less than a minute while booting up (but literally everytime while booting). Finally, about a month ago, the monitor went blank. I've been using a big external LCD monitor ever since. However, I need to take the machine with me to a conference, so I need the notebook's LCD to work. However, I don't know a inverter from a backlight from a hole in the wall. A few times in the past month, I noticed that the notebook LCD would light up and work fine (along with my external monitor) for a few minutes before going blank again. It has not done that for a while. There are some very faint images on the notebook LCD, but they are so faint I cannot tell what they are or whether they match what is on the external monitor.

I plan on buying a new notebook after the holidays, but need to get the notebook's LCD to work for another month or two. Can anyone please either suggest what/how I should replace, or link to appropriately informative threads?

If I find an FRU 92P6760 and manage to hook it up, could that do the trick? Would that cover the inverter? Is it more or less likely that I need a new X or a new Y? Any help would be greatly appreciated...

From your description it sounds like the CCFL (backlight) went bad. Try this service - recommended!!

Same thing happened to me. You can read about it in the following thread.

Long story short; I bought a used display lid complete on ebay for a delivered cost of $117. Works fine.
