600X runs extremely slow

#1 Post by turbines » Sat Nov 13, 2004 7:31 pm

I bought a used TP600x still in warranty. The HDD was bad when I got it and I replaced it with an exchange drive IBM sent me. I loaded Windows XP Home Edition on a FAT32 but it runs extremely slow even though it has 384 MB of. ram. I updated all of the drivers from the the IBM site including the XP supplement per the instructions. It is very slow to boot and shutdown. It takes forever and a day to defrag. After 2 hours it has rarely defraged more than 2%. I also have another laptop that is a 266 Mhz running Win98 and it does everthing faster. Anybody have any ideas?

Well, I would look to see if the registry is corrupted in Windows.
When you have the registry that is corrupt; that how Windows acts. Do you get any error messages at boot up at all?

I would do a clean reload of Windows and see if this helps!

Secondly, you may have a virus!

Other then that; I do not know of anything else except that your hard drive might be damaged!

I do the above in that order. But if you get no error message when Windows boots up then I conclude that your hard drive is no good!
