T30 recovery disks advice please

#1 Post by traveller » Wed Nov 21, 2007 4:38 pm

Hi all,I wonder if anyone can advise me please ?.
I have 3 recovery disks that came with the T30 when i bought it and am not sure how to use them ?......I put the #1 disk in the cd after completely formatting my drive and it said it was loading IBM option and after that went on to load windows XP......It never asked for disk 2 or 3 and wonder what they are for ?.....what I was attempting to do was just reload the IBM options as I found them quite helpful...XP went on fine but I cannot seem to find the IBM options.....
instructions for using these disks would be appreciated.
Many thanks
Kind regards to all
Clive

Although I always found some of them to be a pain, and I usually download just the ones I want off IBMs site, installing them should be a matter of sticking them in the drive and going through the autorun menu that pops up.

You may have made a mistake by re-formatting your drive; recovery cds love blanko hdds. Should you need to back up files, DO IT*. Download and create a bootable cd from Secure Data Disposal. Set in bios that the first boot device is cd/dvd and run SDD at it's lowest level, writing logs to disc is unecessary. Then you can run your recovery cds. They will then re-create the hidden patition and install your TP to factory settings.
*SDD deletes enough of the hdd that recovery cds think it is factory new, a layman has no chance of recovering data.

Just use FDISK to delete any partition found on the harddisk.
Do not create any partition and do not format.

Start with the first disk...

Wondering - Would Hitachi DFT LOW-LEVEL format be a good first step before the recovery CD's?

Guess that would do the trick too, but it takes ages to complete...
