Running Windows Vista with Glass/Aero on T42

#1 Post by stand_99 » Fri Nov 23, 2007 12:19 am

Hello,

I'm thinking of purchasing a used T42 with an ATI Radeon Mobility 9600 64 mb video card, and I was just wondering whether anybody has had success running Vista with the Aero/Glass on such a machine.

If so, how does it run?

I've read some conflicting things, so I would just like to get some direct confirmation before I buy it :-)

Thanks for the input!

i would say T42 is a good machine, but definitely not for Vista.
Due to the intensive cpu usage, just uninstalled Office 2007 and back to office 2003 pro. Smooth~

I think Vista will run great on T42, if you have 1.5GB or 2GB RAM.

Vista demands a lot more RAM than XP does, but once you have it, the OS will run as fast as it should. Personally, I find Vista runs better than XP on my T43 with PM760/1.5GB/7K100. T42 isn't much slower than T43, and the ATI 9600 will let you have full Aero experience too.

Hope it helps

what bout the wattage consumption?
Vista did shorten the battery usage life faster than XP

i have Vista running on my T42 (see sig) and it runs great. AERO right out the box. About the battery life, well yeah i'm sure it does suck a bit more juice but when i disable AERO i notice only a slight gain in estimate battery life. In XP there was also the software for the ATI card that would downclock the GPU to save power. I can't seem to have that here.
