R32 fan control

#1 Post by technicianx » Fri Nov 23, 2007 6:05 pm

Hi everyone

I have an IBM Thinkpad R32 laptop which I am having CPU fan issues with. It kicks into full-speed mode at random times for no particular reason (CPU usage isn't at 100%), and refuses to slow down unless I shut it down or put it to sleep then turn it back on.

I have tried numerous programs such as TP fan control and Speedfan to no avail, and the problem still persists. I also have Intel Speedstep set to 'Automatic' CPU control.

What I'd like to ask is, is there any other way to control the fan, or to resolve this very annoying issue?

As you may have seen, I have just replied to your related question in the "associated" thread: NHC 2 is out! (see my post there of Sat Nov 24, 2007 5:15 pm).

Now, after reading what you tell here, I begin to wonder if the fan problem you describe is a new phenomena or it has troubled you all the time you have had your R32? If so (if the latter is true), did you try search this forum for other folks having the same problem, and/or solutions to it?? So, to repeat my suggestion from the other thread: Please provide us with a little more information... as it is otherwise difficult to understand if this is a new or an old problem.

If you problem is indeed new, it would seem to point towards something in your R32 is starting to fail... and in such case, I won't believe that installing e.g. Notebook Hardware Control would solve this issue - but, of course, I might be wrong?

BR,

Johan
