Installed Vista on my T42p: Various questions.
1. My screen flickers after Vista install, the monitor refresh frequency is 50Hz, how do I make it 60Hz to get rid of the flickerness?
2. Which drivers to install to have the functionality on turning off the screen, make the Ultranav features work, Power Management, etc
3. Software to view my machine temperatures and control the fan
Basically I'm testing to see if I like Vista, I'm so accostumed to use XP along with TP Fan Control, my fan is always on without that utility
Edit:
Managed to install Ultranav driver, PM driver and Hotkey drivers.
For some reason the On screen utility does not work when pressing the up/down buttons, and in Device Manager it shows a "unknown device" (guess is the power manager driver) present after the install of the PM driver.
I have not been able to resolve the flicker issue, if I choose to change the driver for the 'generic pnp monitor' I can choose from IBM but the 1400x1050 pixels TFT LCD panel is not present, not sure if will work with other resolutions.
Managed to install new TPFancontrol in Vista and NHC to undervolt CPU
Any insights on the problems above mentioned?

the flicker is a driver issue that hasn't be resolved yet. Some T42s have it and some don't. I had 2 T42s with same specs but one didn't and mine does. It's not really the Hz that's the problem tho because a that T42 said 50hz also as well as the T43 i'm selling. Those 2 didn't flicker at all tho so i don't know what's really causing it.

You might want to check the "light at the end of the tunnel" ongoing thread on this forum somewere. I think it might be in the T4x section.xtr wrote:Anyone knows where to download TPFanControl that works in Vista along with Nhc?
I am not aware of a Vista specific tpfancontrol. I use the old ver 1.8 and manually start it in Vista. It must be run as Admin and most of the time will give a "winio" error, but then after clicking OK, just run it again and it works and stays working.
I messed with the service version of tpfancontrol but never liked it.

about the flicker issue:
i recently sent my laptop in under warranty to have work unrelated to the grpahics done on it. In the the letter that came back with the laptop, they said they updated the "Embedded Controller" and probably the bios. I thought I had already done this. But anyway, now, I no longer have any problems with the screen flickering. I heard it's due to the new way the ATI drivers probe for the display timing. This bug exists in the linux ATI drivers as well.
