T42 Mobo replacement

#1 Post by chocorem » Sun Nov 25, 2007 1:14 am

Hello,

just got a new problem with one of my Thinkpad. My R51 (1829-R6G) has the weird Product name problem (messed Product name and type, so that I cannot use the System update program). I've tried the HMD (hardware mainteance disk) with no luck; it says that the EEPROM is Write-Protected

Now it's not a problem anymore, because I assume that my mobo (motherboad) is broken. The R51 sometimes doen't boot, and when it boots, the USB ports never work (even on the dock).

So now I'm looking for a mobo replacement. the mobo is a 27R2037. I would like to know if someone knows where the find a used unit or perhaps can I put ontoher model in it ?

regards

Greg

During boot from the HMD have you pressed the ESC key?

This will allow the EEPROM to be written to. If you miss pressing ESC just try again.

According to the Lenovo website yours is a R51.

At what time exactly do I have to push Esc, I tried during boot or when the blue screen of IBM appears, nothing seems to work ....

When the IBM logo is displayed.

After pressing ESC the ThinkPad logo will disappear and you will see the white lettered screen with a long view your ThinkPad starting up. Memory counting and other messages.

Then I press F12 to get the boot option screen and select my USB floppy drive.

The next thing I know I have the HMD menu.
