AC adapter port no longer working

#1 Post by pat » Sun Nov 25, 2007 9:36 am

Hi all, it's been a long time since I've posted!

Anyway, I've got a T42 2378FVU and I can no longer plug the AC adapter cable in and have it charge. I've determined that it's the little port that is inside of the laptop and not the cable. Also, if I move the cable while it's inside the port I can see the battery light come on to charge.

How would I go about dismantling the laptop and securing the little port? Is this even possible as the laptop is out of warranty (warranty ended on 11-13, go figure!)? I'm pretty computer savvy and not afraid of opening it up -- I just need to know how.

Thanks!
pat

Is the mainboard going to need to be replaced or is this something I can resolder on?

It has to come completrely apart, but the jack plugs into the MB. The jack is screwed onto the frame at the rear of the motherboard. No soldering needed

It appears there is no soldering necessary. Just buy one of those replacement jacks and replace it. It appears to plug in to the board.
