I am using a wireless PCMCIA card (LAN2) but recently an icon for LAN (1) has appeared, this is for the modem which I do not use. I have tried re-installing the driver, disabling it under device manager but it still persists stubbornly sitting on my desktop. When I try to disable under network connections it says:
"It is not possible to disconnect at this time. This connection may be using one or more protocols that do not support Plug-and-Play, or it may have been initiated by another user on the system account."
I have recently swapped out motherboard also I recently upgraded BIOS to latest revision???

I'm not sure why the LAN connection icon would appear in connection with a modem, that doesn't make a lot of sense. According to Lenovo's website, your machine has an internal LAN through the Intel combo card, and that's what you may want to be looking at...
You may want to pull your wi-fi card out, and immediately upon boot try to disable the Intel LAN. You may have to be logged on as administrator for that part.
I've had this happen to me a few times and my way around it pretty much can be summarized as being stubborn...and booting and re-booting until I've actually got it disabled...
Let us know how this flies...
Good luck.

Heh I was disabling the modem when it was actually the 3 Com combo card. Ah well, thanks for pointing that out.
