T61P : Problems with playing DVD and video, Thanks

#1 Post by mike20030405 » Sun Nov 25, 2007 4:57 pm

In my memory at first the Media Player did play .avi files well, but after I uninstalled WinDVD then it doesn't play anymore, just says no codec something.
I uninstalled WinDVD just because when I put in a DVD disc WinDVD always picked up the DVD and tried to play, but never did it, and always kept running, running and running, but no movie played out.
After I found that Windows Media Centre can play DVD, then I uninstalled WinDVD.
Also, I downloaded binary packs of MPlayer 1.0rc1 Windows GUI and Binary Codec Packages. I unzipped both the packs, and moved the Codec pack contents(all .dll something) to the codec directory under Mplayer directory, but MPlayer is still not able play video files, like .avi, .rmvb or .kmv.

Did I miss something or did something wrong? Any suggestion would be appreciated.

(I use Vista Home Premium)

Hi,
just google for VLC player. It´s free and it can play literally every type of music and video files out there without need of installing or uninstalling any additional codecs

Cheers
