Please call 1-866-96-THINK to place an order.

4-cell slimline battery P/N 40Y6999 says its for X60s.

"The Slim Line battery is designed for use with ThinkPad X60s Series notebooks only (Note that it is not compatible with other ThinkPad X60 Series models)."

Will it work with a X61x or is there another battery P/N I need?

Slim Line Battery which is available in 4 cell (prismatic) fits only X60s/X61s. It would not fit X60/X61 due to the bigger mass of fan construction on those machines.

What you're looking for is either:

1. 4 cell Enhanced battery which fits all X6x/s non tablet machines. (Part number: 40Y7001)

OR

2. 4 cell Extended Life Battery that goes into the X6 Ultrabase, this battery is common for Thinkpad X6x/s/t. (Part number: 40Y7005)

Great info, thanks! But since I do have a X61s than I can use the Slim Line Battery 40Y6999 right?

I have now the 8 Cell (with the thingy sticking out the back) so I'm looking for a lighter one.

X6x Tablet Li-Ion 4-cell (Part number: 40Y8314)
X6x Tablet Li-Ion 8-cell (Part number: 40Y8318)
X6x Extended Life Battery (Part number: 40Y7005)

Please do not buy non tablet batteries for tablet machines other than Extended life battery, none are going to fit.

I was certain they were different but there was no mention of it on that page. The bigger question is WHY would they make the tablet batteries different. Honestly there should be a standard battery convention for ALL thinkpads regardless of model. The only change should be capacity. Form factor should be the same. The only reason I can think of to make them different is to MAKE MORE MONEY through obscurity.

The tablets require a different battery shape in order to accommodate the tablet hinge.

The batteries for tablet PC are unlike due to very distinctive architecture of that machine. Designing them differently also costs manufacturer more money.
