I have recently bought an LG L1715s LCD monitor.
Originally I had no VGA cable to test the LG monitor. However , when I powered it up (not connected to a pc) , I got a black screen for 10 seconds then a 0.25 second flash of a "no signal" blue box display , then a black screen again. I could not access any menu etc.
Anyway , I was uncertain whether this was due to the LG LCD monitor being duff or just to the fact that it was not connected to my T30.
I have now located an old VGA cable which is missing pins 4 , 5 and 9. I tried this cable with my T30 and instead of the "no signal" box flashing on screen for 0.25 seconds , I get the Windows desktop appearing for 0.25 secs - this happens each time I switch from the internal T30 LCD to the external monitor.
I still think its a duff external monitor , but maybe I'm using the wrong VGA cable. Will a VGA cable missing pins 4, 5 and 9 work with a T30 and an external "made in 2004" LG monitor OR do I need a "full 15 pin" VGA cable?
Thanks
T30 - VGA cable - external LG LCD monitor - is it duff?
Pin 9 should be the only missing pin. Pin 4 is needed for the monitor ID and pin 5 is a ground.
The pinouts can be found here: http://www.interfacebus.com/Design_SVGA_PinOuts.html
There is a difference in the pins used for VGA vs. SVGA monitors. You may have an older VGA cable. I would suggest trying a cable with only pin 9 missing.

That would be my guess, as well. The pin may be there, but is probably not wired.
