T23 & recovery discs < is code number required?
I have a T23 & I want to restore the system to factory fresh. It is full of trojans and corrupted registry files.
I have the set of 2 factory issued product recovery CDs "TYPE 2647" which match my computer type and OS type (W2K). I have had the CDs booted as far as the format stage and ready to do the reformatting, but I cancelled the action.
Before I go any farther I want to know if I will be asked for a code number before reloading W2K is allowed. Also, any other advice would be appreciated...
I bought the T23 used and it is a sweet little machine, but this is my first experience with laptops and compared to towers, they are a different kind of animal. I am brand new to this forum and I have already learned a lot by browsing. Many thanks for the help.

Welcome to the forum!
You will not be asked for registration code, unless you want to register with MS, but you're not required to do it. Machine will work without registering it just fine...

The most important thing to know when using the restore disks, is that you need to format the harddrive first. Otherwise, you will get a screwed up installation, and it WILL require using the COA...and even then, I am not sure that it will accept the one that you have.
Just format first, then insert Disk #1....it won't even ask for the COA...

Well, I did the rebuild with NO PROBLEMS !!!
I put the first disc in the computer, and then restarted. I hit the "THINKPAD" key on the restart and the disc booted automatically. No code # was required.
The reload took about 1 hour and so far seems to have been flawless.
Thanks to all for the help...now I need more memory!!!
