SecurityRisk.eGatherer IBM Access Support Vulnerability?

#1 Post by kjarrett » Sun Nov 14, 2004 9:36 am

When I scan for virii with NAV 2004, I get a warning

Source: C:\IBMTOOLS\APPS\ACCESS\TEMP\ACPCON~1.DLL
Description: The file C:\IBMTOOLS\APPS\ACCESS\TEMP\ACPCON~1.DLL is a Security risk threat.
Click for more information about this threat : SecurityRisk.eGatherer

Here is the link:

http://securityresponse.symantec.com/av ... herer.html

I downloaded the fix:

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-54588

But the scan still says it's a problem. WTF!

Comments? Thoughts?

I have run into the same problem on an X31 and have not been able to make NAV happy, even after downloading the "fix" from IBM.

Ah. So should we just assume we're ok since we applied the fix (making htis a flase positive) or should we contact Symantec and IBM?

I don't have a good answer to that question.

Logical thing to do is to tell IBM and Symantec that the problem still exists after the fix has been installed. I just did.

I agree, the fix should eliminate the warning from the AV solution IBM recommends using (NAV).

have we found a fix yet? I am about to work on a computer that I don't have any room for error when fixing this problem and I want to make sure the fix will stop these warnings.

Here's a fix that worked for me.

Download and install the old versions of the fix as well as the latest one. This worked for me.

Something else that might work is going to the website for Microsoft's OneCare and downloading/installing/allowing the onecare website to do a protection scan over the web. I believe the onecare program might remove the cause/culprit(s).
