T4x Motherboard Reset

#1 Post by chan_man » Tue Nov 27, 2007 9:57 am

Not sure if this will help anyone..

My T42P did not want to power on this morning, no lights on anywhere, dark. This is with the AC plugged in, battery only, AC plugged in and no battery, etc. When the AC was plugged in with a battery in, there was no light showing that the battery was being charged, absolutely no lights anywhere...

Called Lenovo service, the service person was nice, told me to take the battery out, unplug the AC and go through a "reset" sequence

Press the power button 10 times at 1 second interval, then press and hold the power button for 30 seconds.

Replace the battery and then plug in the AC.

I did this with great skepticism, but amazingly the system booted...

The service person told me that this was a motherboard went into some sort of protection mode to prevent damage and this sequence was to reset the system and drain the capacitors.

Is my motherboard going bad?

No, I have seen this done many times before. I would not worry about it.
