Soldering connections to the UJ-832

#1 Post by robhill » Tue Nov 27, 2007 2:02 pm

I bought a DVD burner. Made by Panasonic, it has the same guts as the UJ-832
model for the Thinkpad. The 25 pin surface mount connector is a different though.
I ought to be able to desolder the one on my CD-RW/DVD and solder it to this new one. It was about half the price. Has anyone done this to offer any advice. I know desoldering multiple pins is tricky at best.

Thank you!

What kind of equipment do you have? A hot-air rework station with nozzle made for multiple pins makes it fairly straight-forward. If you have just a plain iron, solder braid can help you get most of the solder off. Can you cut the connector off and then de-solder the pins one at a time.

I have just a soldering gun and solder sucker. I would buy a hot air system if they aren't terribly expensive. Do you know how much they are or where to get them? I take things apart all the time.

Thank you. Much better priced than some of the other ones I saw.
